Week 13

This week was EXTREMELY exciting, I officially have a mentor! Her name is Samantha Townsend, and she works for ultimate ventures in Dallas. We have been discussing my original work and final product(briefly), and I'm SO EXCITED! Sam is going to give me a hypothetical event scenario and I have to plan the event from top to bottom. As if it is an actual event, I will work around bumps and problems that will evolve as if it was actually happening.
We have our first official meeting on wednesday at 7pm, probably at starbucks but I am not positive. She has very very very busy weeks, so we will most likely be doing most of our meetings outside of school and work. She used to cheer at wakeland so she understands that we have to work around my cheer schedule, thankfully. We also work around her schedule, but she is easy to work with outside of work.
I'm extremely excited to embark on this wonderful adventure of second semester. I'm ready to jump aboard and explore the complex world of event planning with my wonderful mentor.

Week 12

Due to being very behind on my weekly blog post, I'm going to make this one a little more detailed than my normal ones. Over the past couple of weeks, a lot has happened. I'm really close to finding a mentor. I have sent Amanda Giesler an email about speaking with her, as well as set up a meeting with Samantha Townsend to interview with her. Yesterday, I was supposed to meet with her at Starbucks for an interview, though she got caught up in some work and was not able to make it. So we have rescheduled for tomorrow at 7 pm at Starbucks. My hope is to love her and ask her to be my mentor. She is familiar with the program, because she graduated from Wakeland years ago.
Other than that, we had showcase a couple of weeks ago, and that was a challenge. What I learned from that is to be well prepared, learn how to communicate with people you can't understand, and wear comfortable shoes. Also, I talked to a lot of people that know event planners, though none of them live in this area. Which is a bummer but interesting to know that it isn't as uncommon as I thought it was. This industry is bigger than I realize.
I'm hoping to get Samantha to be my mentor starting tomorrow, because I need help on my original work. I'm really struggling with my ideas and what I can do. I'm somewhat limited to what I can do, so I need mentor help on that. Also, I really just want to have a mentor set in place just to have that weight lifted off my shoulders.
